Enterprise

First – I finally finished all seven seasons of Voyager.  Then I moved on to Enterprise.

I’m on the last episode of the first season.  So far I’m enjoying it.  It’s very different.  It’s interesting to see what the struggles may have been of a young Starfleet venturing out for the first time.

However …

SHUTTLEPODS?  Come on.  COME ON.  We have freaking SHUTTLES now.  A few hundred years in the future and we’re going to randomly start calling them ‘shuttlepods’?  STOP IT.

Hoshi – I hope she dies soon. Can. Not. Stand. Her. Character.

T’Pol – What the hell, Jolene Blalock?  Actually I don’t know if it’s an issue with the actress or an issue with the makeup folks on the show.  Does she get hourly Botox injections in those gigantic duck lips?  You could land a shuttlepod on them.  Also, her ‘Vulcan’ eyebrows, instead of  being the usual straight angled lines, are weirdly arched things that appear to be drawn on with startling black Sharpie.  She has the perpetual look of surprise you usually only see on an inflatable love doll.

Opening/closing credits – really?  REALLY?  What … IS that?  Its approximately 18 minutes (that may be an exaggeration) of really bad … REALLY BAD … singing?  WHAT?  No.  NO.  Just … no.

Scott Bakula as the captain is surprisingly tolerable.  I wasn’t expecting that.  The alien doctor?  Eh, whatever.  He’s fine.  The strained Vulcan/Human relations are interesting.  Seeing the ‘discovery’ of Klingons, Andorians, Ferengi, etc., also interesting.  It’s like an entirely different ST universe.  Nice that they aren’t able to rely on technology the way they do in the later timelines.  The Universal Translator doesn’t even work half the time, and they have to rely on their own skills to communicate.

Three seasons to go!
